Write your congressional representative and senator

I'm going to go ahead and go public with this blog in order to possibly get a few more people to send emails, letters...and to make phone calls on behalf of Khalid. You may go here to get your specific congressional representative's number and address. Just enter your zipcode on the front page and you'll be able to find the information. You will also be able to find your senator's information there, too.

Here's the Iraqi government's consular information. The email is bouncing back, but keep trying and send hard copy letters to the following address. Thanks to Juan Cole for posting this information. I made this blog earlier, thought better of going out with it, but then thought if I could get even a few people to help Khalid and send some letters and emails to their representative, then it was worth taking all the possible trolling. Anyway, it's just the right thing to do in this moment of time.

Please give us our Khalid back.

Hi Najma, I have just (third attempt) tried to send my e-mail to the two addresses on the domain: all bounced; and my fourth attempt, to the iraqia.washington address also bounced (but I can see that it is merely "mapped" to the address).

This is what my e-mail says (see below). I would also add an extra message to the Ambassador: Your Excellency, when I send you a polite message, the least you can do is accept it. Your embassy is sited in the richest country in the world, by which you are also funded, and I don't believe that you cannot arrange to have more appropriate ISP hosting arrangements.

Your Excellency

Please either charge or release Khalid Jarrar. If you merely detain
him, without charge, without access to legal representation or the Red
Crescent, then - with respect - you sink to the level of the US
occupiers of Iraq. You just give them comfort - make them think that
they can continue to violate the sanctity of the lives of Iraqis,
because they can point at the actions of the Iraqi secret service and
say, "We're not doing anything the Iraqis themselves are not doing."

I am copying this e-mail to as many of your fellow countrymen - Iraqis -
as I can to let them know that I utterly deplore this rogue behaviour by
your security personnel. I will not stand by, silent, while the secret
service police of any country perpetrate human rights abuses upon their
fellow nationals. This sort of thing alienates the true friends of
Iraq, and it seems to me that just now Iraq needs all her real friends.

Yours faithfully
